John Checkeye

John Checkeye, born April 6, 1952 to the late Rita Szklany. John passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024 of natural causes. He was the proprietor of Gems of the World on Carson Street. John was involved in AA for the last 32 years and enjoyed his time with the organization.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Pat Weber, and Cathy Toner. John leaves behind his three sons, J. Checkeye (Nicole), Dan Checkeye, and Jeff Checkeye (Diana). He had three grandchildren, Sarah Boffoli, Alex Checkeye, and Anna Checkeye. John also left behind his two brothers, Steve Szklany and Tony Szklany (Kim). His niece, Ami Weber, and his nephews, Mark Weber, Steve Szklany, Nicolas Szklany, and Paul Toner. Friends received Tuesday 2-8 PM in Thomas J. Gmiter Funeral Home, Inc. 2323 E. Carson St., where a Blessing Service will be held Wednesday at 10:00 AM.
