Irene M. (Kapolka) Rechtorik

Age 95, of Baldwin, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 14th, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Growing up with a large family on Pittsburgh's South Side, Irene shared her smile and warmth with those she loved, enjoying a long career at the Webster Hall Hotel, making countless friends as the manager of the A Plus convenience store on Brownsville Road, and volunteering with the Christian Mothers at St. Matthew's church. "Ire" will be remembered fondly for her famous chicken soup, her love of animals, especially her pet Uzi, and the joy she brought to every family holiday. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stephen Rechtorik, her sisters, Anne Yakopcic and Mary Eglar, and her brother, Vincent Kapolka. She is survived by her daughters, Mae (Douglas) Barnes and Kimberly (David) Tobiczyk, her grandchildren Stephen Barnes, Kevin Barnes, and Lana Tobiczyk, and her many nieces and nephews. Friends received at Thomas J. Gmiter Funeral Home, 2323 E. Carson St. on Monday, April 21st from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Funeral Prayer Tuesday 9:00 AM in the funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Adalbert Church, Mary-Queen of Peace Parish at 10:00 AM.
