On January 9, Debbie Crighton went home to her Heavenly Father. She was surrounded by members of the Emmaus Community of Pittsburgh where she made her home for the past twenty-six years. She is now reunited in heaven with her parents, James and Marguerite Crighton and her sister, Eileen. Debbie is survived by her brother, Robert; several nieces and nephews; her housemate and dearest friend, Diane, and many other members of the Emmaus Community including Direct Support Professionals, staff, residents, volunteers, board members, and friends. In 1994, Debbie became the first resident to be served by the Emmaus Community of Pittsburgh. Her little frame belied her huge personality. Debbie always had a twinkle in her eye, and a way of drawing people close. Her laugh was loud and infectious and she shared her gifts of kindness and trust and joy with all who knew her. Debbie lived life to the fullest enjoying parties, dancing, eating out, and celebrating holidays. In her younger years she was active in Special Olympics, enjoyed doing latch hook rugs, and worked at Goodwill Industries. In recent years she enjoyed retirement by taking walks, sitting on the porch swing, going for long rides, and of course "Zooming" with her many friends since March. Debbie will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. The Emmaus Community would like to thank the staff of Gallagher Hospice for their loving and compassionate support during the past few months. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 19, 2-4 PM in Thomas J. Gmiter Funeral Home, Inc. 2323 E. Carson St. Pittsburgh, PA. 15203, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 20th, 9:30 AM, in St. Anne's Church, St. Paul of the Cross Parish, 400 Hoodridge Drive, Pittsburgh, PA. 15234. Interment at Greenwood Memorial Park, 104 Melwood Road, Lower Burrell, Westmoreland County, PA. 15068.
