Passed away peacefully on July 6, 2022. Barb was born on September 20, 1943 to Andrew and Anna Gales. She was a true South Sider through and through, having lived her entire life in the house she was born in; she also raised her family there. Barb worked for the City of Pittsburgh first as a crossing guard, and then retiring as a parking enforcement officer. She was known by everyone. In her neighborhood, she was the first to greet a new neighbor, collect packages, or offer advice on fixing things. She loved ceramics, gardening and bargain shopping. Barb was a fantastic cook and baker, and her house was a place where people came for a good meal and sweet treat. She is survived by her daughters, Kim Miller, Beth Miller (Shawn Herzer), granddaughters, Laura Herzer and Kaylin (Jason) Schall, brother, Donald Gales, several nieces and nephews, and best friend, Linda Hurney. She will be missed by her rescue pets, Midnight and Arlo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Barb's name to the Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh, 6926 Hamilton Ave. Pittsburgh, PA. 15208. Friends received Sunday 12-6 PM in Thomas J. Gmiter Funeral Home, Inc. 2323 E. Carson St. A Memorial Mass and luncheon will be held at a later date.
