Anna Franiewski

Age 99, from the South Side of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 2, 2022. She was born in Poland and permanently separated from her family at age 16 and endured several very hard years in captivity/forced labor camps. Anna was one of the last survivors of the WWII atrocities, but lived her life to the fullest after relocating to South Side in 1951. To all who knew Anna, she was the kindest but toughest woman they ever met. She would give anyone a home-cooked meal or her last $20 (she often did). The world lost a legend, but her influence will live on forever through her family. Beloved mother of Barbara (Frank) Ford, Stan (Linda) Franiewski, Joe (Dee) Franiewski and the late Sophie Franiewski. Wife of the late Eugene. Beloved grandmother of four grandsons, Frankie Ford, Bob Ford, Zak Franiewski and Josh Franiewski. Also four great-grandsons, two great-great-grandchildren and one on the way. A very special thank you to the angels at Scott Twp. Kane Hospital, Floor 3A. Rest in peace, Anna! Everyone is OK!! We will carry on from here!! Friends received Sunday 12-6 PM in Thomas J. Gmiter Funeral Home, Inc. 2323 E. Carson St. A Prayer Service will be held Sunday 6:00 PM in the funeral home. Interment private.
