Age 80, passed gently on Monday, December 4, 2017. Beloved husband of Marcia Tongel; dear father of Theresa (the late William) Stipetich, John "Steve" Tongel, Jr., Debbie (Kevin) Brown, Christine (Dave) Bambraugh, Joseph (Leslie) Tongel, Ian (Monica) Borowski, Holly (Scott) Gedzar; grandfather of Tabatha, Kevin, John "Stevie" III, Nicole, Lauren, Joey, Jamie, Samantha, Aaron, Sophia, and Addison; great-grandfather of Adria; brother of the late Joann (David) Charles; also many nieces, nephews and a score of friends. John was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, a 20 year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he loved golf and gambling and was an Ormsby Park icon. Friends received Friday 2-8 PM in Thomas J. Gmiter Funeral Home, Inc. 2323 E. Carson St. Funeral prayer Saturday 8:30 AM, Mass of Christian Burial in St. Pius X Church (Brookline) at 9:30 AM.
