On Friday, August 21, 2105, at the age of 99, Sophie peacefully went home to be with the Lord where every day is a celebration of a life that never ends. Predeceased by loving husband, Andrew "Ben" Macurak; daughter of the late Mary and Michael Madeja; loving mother of Anthony "Nails", Jim "Jumbo" (Marilyn), Patricia "Pat" (Howard/Bud) Brock, Tom "Ace" (Karen), Carol (Jack) Bombich, Bob "Muchie" (Mary Kay), Don "Pepper" (Jo Ann), Janice (Ed) Moeller and the late Marlene Macurak; sister of Irene Kuchta and the late Marian Tomko, John, Joseph and Michael Madeja; grandmother of 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Sophie was a proud member of the St. Matthew's/Prince of Peace Christian Mothers and Rosary Society. Sophie was a distinguished member and officer of Wreath 22 Slovak Catholic Sokols. Friends and family will be welcomed at Thomas J. Gmiter Funeral Home Inc., 2323 E. Carson St. on Wednesday and Thursday, 2-8 PM. Funeral Prayer Friday 9:00 AM, Mass of Christian Burial in St. Adalbert Church, Prince of Peace Parish at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow in Loretto Cemetery. The family would like to give a special and heartfelt thank you to Family Hospice. Sophie touched the lives of many family and friends. She was loved by all and will be in our hearts forever.
